Life is so full of wonder. I’m in awe at the ripple effects from memories of times long past mingling with more recent inspiration, connections, and wonder. The following poem, I Must Remember, is dedicated to an old friend, Billy Harris, who first introduced me to the magical beauty of phosphorescence when I was a teen. I learned that he passed away a few weeks after I wrote the poem. You can hear the full poem in the video below. {If you have a tendency to get sea sick, you might want to listen with your eyes closed instead of watching the water in the video.}
I feel the ripple effects we have in one another’s lives beyond what we may imagine and through space and time. I’m grateful for that memory and the influence it’s had in my life. I wish I had shared this with Billy sooner. I continue to hold the memory and magic in my heart along with Billy’s unique smile and laughter. The poem was inspired by late summer evening swims in a nearby mountain lake along with memories from when I lived in the Florida Keys and a post my friend, Kelly, made about saltwater being healing whether through tears, sweat, or the ocean. As one of the last lines in the poem says, “I must remember that I am alive.” May we all remember to fully live while we can (which includes plenty of rest, relaxation, and leisure time to enjoy the views in my book!) as a way to honor our own lives and those of loved ones who have gone on into the heavenly mystic.
That poem also helped inspired the following pair of paintings called, Inner Harbor. I love the magic and medicine found in the creative process! This diptych set of paintings started as purely playful painting and evolved into this serene reflection and invitation to tend to our inner peace. What do you think your “Inner Harbor” would look like? I sure hope my friend Billy is in a serene, sparkling heavenly harbor of some kind now.

I hope amidst everything going on in the world, that you may have a sense of tranquility from an inner harbor as well. It’s something I’ve been tending to more often as I’ve learned more tools and practices for doing so over the years. I gladly share many of those in my book and hope all that I share may have healthy ripple effects.
I’m also reminded of these words from another recent poem about Coming Home:
I breathe it in
to my depths
The freedom…
To feel at home
To live and lust and love
To die full and empty
And let go
To fly
Into the Mystic…
I hope that for each of us… that we may be free to live fully before we die and free to fly (or float/sail!) into the mystic when the time comes. You can hear the full poetry reading in the following video:
I’m currently working on another book, which is a book of poetry. I’ve also recently added a new option in my shop for photography prints, some of them feature excerpts from poetry or prayers added to the images. I’ll be adding more based on requests and time.
I hope that my offerings and presence honor, appreciate, create, explore, celebrate, share, and reflect sacred beauty and blessings in a wild, wonderful world and each of us. I’m grateful to be able to share inspiration, presents, paintings, poetry, and sweet specials for a community of kindred spirits through free newsletters. Wonderful Well Wishes to You,

This poem is so gorgeous and listening to you recite it is blissful, thank you.
Ahh… thanks so much, Laura! I assume you’re referring to the first poem/video. Either way, so glad you enjoy it. 🙂
